INTERINSULAR 2009

This year's interinsular started with the usual delay, as condor was running about an hour late! The Guernsey team still arrived in good spirits, as the occasion is always a good day out, no matter in which island it is held. With the weather a little iffy and overcast and just a hint of rain, the draw was made and the matches began. The visitors, having a slightly under strength team didn't make the best start, being 7 games to 5 down after the first round. Next was the high light of the day - lunch, as usual the ladies put on a really fabulous spread with a cheese and pate salad with lovely, fresh French bread, and to follow - cakes to die for!  Then on with the battle - the home team pushed to their advantage taking the next round 8 to 4. With the long terrains, deep gravel in places and a light drizzle developing, the Guernsey team could not match the play of the opposition. The third round 7 to 5, again to Jersey, proved it was going to take a miracle for the visitors to turn this around needing to win 11 of the last 12 games. With the last round going 8 to 4 in favour of the home team, it became a convincing win to Jersey, 30 games to 18.
